Ok, some of you have showed an interest in learning more about psychic abilities during the last couple of meetings, and possibly how to channel them. So, as I promised, here is some info on it. Now keep in mind that none of it is text book- most of us fall heavily in one area and touch on others. It is definitely within the realm of possibility to have a “strength” in more than one area- though typically we rely on one more than the rest. This can be adjusted through practice-Yes!- and focus.

First, what does it mean to be psychic? What are the “Clairs?” As per Psychics @ Mysticboard.com: “Psychics [are] a major category heading which fits many topics and categories.” Mediums work as channels through which information can be passed through them from spirits or just any universal energy passing through them. In this case you could argue that we are all mediums.

Now let me explain a little more. Every person is DIFFERENT, as is their abilities, their strengths and weaknesses. While some of you aren’t sure whether or not you have any gifts- the fact is we ALL have them. There are those of us who are just a little more “tuned in” if you will. Consider this: Have you ever decided against going down a dark alley because of the way it gave you a creepy vibe? Or how about not taking that same route home as you always do, only to find out there was a horrible accident around the time you’d have been travelling down it? Finally, and probably the most annoying, have you ever been in a place, a grocery store for example, and felt the person behind you was standing just a little too close? That’s your sixth sense!! Your ability to perceive what your other 5 senses don’t.

The “clairs” can generally be explained like this:

Clairvoyance – Clear Seeing. This does not mean that they have sight of the future or past, like seers; however they sometimes can give information into your future or past by visioning an incident or scene. Clairvoyance is associated with the 6th Chakra known as the 3rd eye. Clairvoyants are able to see places, people, words, or objects within the mind’s eye; they read for people by describing to them what it is that they can see. They can also have the abilities to see auras, guides and other energies. They do not typically see like we do physically in 3-D form but rather like a vision or a dream; however it is possible for them to perceive spirits visually as if they were “living” matter. Often, the images just appear within their mind. These visions can appear as if they are watching a movie or may even be still images like a photograph. Occasionally the clairvoyant feels as if they are actually there physically and watching the scene.

Clairaudience – Clear Hearing. This means that they have the ability to hear information and things that are not actually near them; such as voices, tones, bells, music, song and other types of sound. They receive information from spirits, which could be the spirit of a loved one who is being read for or it could be spirit guides. Some clairaudients hear these voices on a physical level while others hear the voice in their head. Some skeptics often argue that it is all within their imagination. However, these words come to clairaudients at such a fast rate that they wouldn’t have time to think of these words themselves even if they wanted to. These people are often misjudged. To “hear voices” is sometimes thought of as to be crazy or even schizophrenic. Some clairaudients pick up on conversations when there is no one near them or within hearing distance. 

Clairsentience – Clear Sense. This is where the person feels or senses things. This can be emotional feelings or feeling physical pain that has occurred. You could always refer to this as our intuition. Although there may be no knowledge of where this feeling is coming from or who it is from, it is just simply there, it is known. This is the ability to feel what others can feel. Often these people are referred to as being empathic or empaths.

But this isn’t all of the clairs, and the couple that follow are less widely known. I can’t say they are less typical, but I can honestly say I am not entirely familiar with them nor have I come across many people who hold these gifts. It might be just that the people with such gifts are quiet about them, feeling they aren’t as “flashy” as some of the others- which, in my opinion, is a shame. All gifts are just that, gifts!

Clariscentist – Clear Scent. These are people who are able to smell fragrances, or substances that are not near them. This can include perfumes, smoke, alcohol, food, coffee and so on.

Claircognizant – Clear Recognition. People often confuse this with clairsentience. This is the ability to know something, no-one tells them and it is not something that they’ve read before, they just simply know it. It is an inner feeling, gut feeling, something which is just known. They have an ability to answer questions and back them up with facts; when before they did not know anything. Consider that reincarnation stories, especially when related by young children, would likely fall into this category.

Clairgustant – Clear Taste. These people are able to taste substances without even putting anything in their mouth. This could be cigarettes, food or drink. Sometimes the person will drink water or something with no taste in order to pick up/receive tastes from a person that they are reading.

For myself, I’m more clairvoyant/psychic, and clairaudient. My strength is being able to walk into a room and pin point a location- the room, the furniture, a space whatever- and get a read on it. I “see” things just as described above… like flashes behind my eyes, in the realm of the Third Eye. I “hear” there too. As was described above, things move rapidly, as do sounds- so when I’m in a place (like the Dowling House in Galena, for example) I like to be still a moment and open up to get a clearer picture. I am entirely guilty of speaking in fragments, saying only what pieces I’m seeing or hearing until I can put them together to make sense. It doesn’t happen all at once. I’ve also experienced clairscentist- smelling incense very strongly when my spirit guides are close, for example, or in the tomb of St. Francis of Assisi in Italy where the scent of roses was overwhelming. This is a very rare occurrence for me. Lastly, I also see phsyically, spotting shadows from my peripheral vision.

Tashana is extremely Clairsentient/ claircognizant … she can pick up emotions, feelings, etc just by being around you. She’ll tell you whether or not you want to hear it… that’s part of who she is. Tashana can walk into a room and know the emotional state of the people within it- living or passed. This is her strength- the part of her gift that she uses the most. I’ll let her tell you more in her own words, but from my experience she is both very sensitive and very accurate.

Some people want to box us all together. Our human nature is to classify and categorize things; we WANT to put people into neat little descriptions. The fact remains, that you simply can’t. Not only is it unfair to do that, it isn’t possible as we all perceive things differently- in different ways. If ten witnesses to the same accident can all report different things, understand that no two people will perceive something unnatural/paranormal the same way. This doesn’t make any one of us better/worse than the others. It is simply the way we perceive information. The best part is, any of these things can be learned if you simply practice. Listen to your “cues” the next time you are standing in that line at the grocery store. Let your gut tell you what you need to know and pay attention to how it feels. That’s the first step! The more you pay attention, the stronger it becomes.
